HKNC SALUTES OUR DEDICATED VOLUNTEERS

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

HKNC Volunteer Services provides a corps of trained individuals who assist students and staff in the training and residence buildings, seven days a week, daytime and evenings. Volunteers range in age from 16 years to senior citizens. Upon completion of six hours of comprehensive training, volunteers can participate in a variety of consumer related activities including one-to-one socializing, recreational outings, and reinforcing communication and independent living skills. Other volunteer opportunities include office assistance, fund-raising projects with The Friends of Helen Keller National Center, and special projects.

The Volunteer Department also includes the Support Service Provider (SSP) Program. An SSP is a volunteer who works 1-1 with a person who is deaf-blind to facilitate communication, provide visual and auditory information, and act as a sighted guide for consumer-directed activities in the community.
