The Helen Keller National Center is pleased to announce the opening of its first permanent community residence in Port Washington through the New York State Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities' Options for People Through Service (OMRDD-OPTS) initiative. If you know of anyone who would like to be part of this historic endeavor to support our mission to serve individuals with deaf-blindness and developmental disabilities, please share this employment information with them.

POSITIONS AVAILABLE

We are accepting applications for full time and part time employment in the following position:

 

Assistant Program Advisor

 

Part time 16 hours per week. Bachelor's degree in special education, psychology or related field. Master's degree preferred. Assists the program advisor with interviewing and hiring staff, supervises and assists with evaluation work performance of staff and ensures consistent and timely communication among staff on varying shifts. Also provides staff training on HKNC philosophy and OMRDD regulations. Monitors staff competencies and program compliance in these areas. Minimum of one year supervisory experience in residential setting serving individuals with multiple disabilities. Knowledge of the Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities (OMRDD) regulation and policy required. Knowledge of sign language and alternative non-symbolic methods of communication preferred. Must possess a valid New York state driver's license. Knowledge of MS Office and Internet required.
