HKNC
is looking to partner with state and local agencies to offer a one-week
Confident Living Program for Senior Adults, age 55 and better. Program may begin on Sunday or Monday and end
at noon the following Friday.
Participants
are encouraged to invite a family member, significant other, or friend to
participate in part of the training. This gives friends and family an
opportunity to discuss and reinforce new skills and practices, as well as learn
how to be a positive support for the consumer.
Host Facility: Rehabilitation
center, camp, or other setting physically accessible for senior adults. Large
gathering room for social interaction; two to three small rooms for individual
classes; and kitchen or kitchenette where simple meals can be prepared.
Staffing: HKNC Senior Adult Program Director; HKNC
Regional Representative; state or local agency direct service staff. It is our intent for this program to not only
benefit consumers, but to act as a “hands on training” for staff who want to
learn more about working with senior adults with combined loss of vision and
hearing.
Administrative
cost: Travel expenses for HKNC Senior Adult
Program Director and Coordinator of Mental Health Services. Copying materials and putting them into
accessible formats; signature guides; 20/20 pens; craft supplies; snacks; and
other materials deemed necessary by the host agencies to conduct the training.
Participant
cost: To be determined by host agencies based on
number of participants and facility cost.
"Life
is either a daring adventure or nothing."
